Janet Garrity is a photographer and author transplanted from Upstate New York to Beaufort, SC, one of the best southern cities for a photographer. Actually, her ties to the north, her love of travel, and the beauty of the Lowcountry, feed Janet’s appetite for photographing the world as she sees it.
“Since I was a child, when I first had a box camera in my hand, I have wanted to show people a view of the world that they may not notice. I want to share what I see, and maybe make someone smile, or say ‘That’s really beautiful.’ Don’t we all want to impact others in a positive way? My way is through my photos.”
Her work has been published in “The Bluff,” the magazine of Palmetto Bluff, the award-winning resort and residential community, “South” and “Charleston Salt & Iron,” both books by Wendy Nilsen Pollitzer, and in her own book “Goin Down the River, Fish Camps of the Sea Islands.”
Janet travels to photograph, and photographs to travel. Her gallery includes images from the Adirondack Mountains, the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Oregon coast, and much of South Carolina, including Beaufort, Charleston, Folly Beach and Daufuskie Island. Janet is currently working on her second book, a collection of photography and inspirational prose that is sure to touch many people’s lives in a positive way.
